Community Guidelines

Introduction

The willyoujoinus.com discussion forum was created as a place for individuals and groups to exchange ideas on important energy issues. It is also a place for users to read, consider, respond, and perhaps be inspired to take individual or collective action in an environment of mutual respect.

Experienced outside moderators have been assigned to ensure that postings are relevant and appropriate, and otherwise meet the sites community guidelines as described below.

All postings will be reviewed by moderators and published on the site within 24 hours if determined to be within these guidelines.

Member Obligations

To participate in the discussion, users must complete a simple registration, sign in, and comply with the following guidelines:

  • Address the specific topic of the discussion.
  • Support your point of view with well-founded arguments and facts.
  • Identify yourself by name, unless doing so will compromise your personal security or livelihood, or that of others.
  • Respect the views of others and consider them carefully before responding with a posting of your own.

Members may not submit content that:

  • is threatening, abusive, libelous, indecent, or graphic, including hate speech directed at a specific ethnic group, nationality, sexual orientation, organization, corporation, religion, etc.
  • infringes on copyright protections
  • attempts to disguise the origin of the posting
  • impersonates an individual or misrepresents a relationship with any person or organization
  • encourages others to commit illegal acts or to harass individuals
  • advertises or promotes goods and services
  • using the site to attempt to influence voting on a particular bill, or proposition

In addition, the following types of postings are not permitted:

  • messages that are not relevant to the debate topic
  • repetitive messages, including cross-posting, flooding, and spamming
  • messages of excessive length (more than 1000 words or 2500 characters)
  • messages with no content
  • viruses, files, or code which might interrupt, destroy, or limit functionality of the site or any computer software or equipment

Moderation Principles

All postings will be carefully reviewed by contracted specialists in community moderation.

  • Moderators will remain objective and respect all points of view.
  • All accepted postings will be published to the site within 24 hours.
  • Postings may be edited as necessary to meet the guidelines described here, or for grammar, spelling, and length.
  • If a posting is edited, an email will be sent indicating where the edit was made, and the reason, prior to publication.
  • Postings may be rejected if they do not meet the guidelines.
  • If a posting is rejected, an email will be sent indicating the reason.
  • Moderators may also edit, divide, or rename a posting if necessary to improve the usability of the forum.
